"The Princess and Goose, Great Dane Rescue Goodwill Ambassadors"

This past year 86 Danes came into rescue.  The economy is still the biggest factor on them being given up.  It is hard to relocate if you have a large dog and it is hard to feed a Dane if you lose your job.  Hopefully 2010 will bring better times to our area.

”Pet Gras and the Krewe of Arfus 2010 will be held on Sunday Feb. 28th at Zephyrs Stadium in New Orleans.  If you are interested in a seeing a certain rescue there please give me a call and I will try to bring them.  I have five to pick up on the way home and can only bring the ones that may be placed as it could be very crowded on the way home!

Please consider giving a loving home to any of these rescues.  They all have so much love to give back and deserve to have a special family all their own.  Adoption fees range from $200-$400 with most around $250-$300.  This covers having them spayed or neutered, shots up to date and on Heart worm preventative.  If you check the price of having this work done on a 100 + pound dog, you will find this a bargain.

Thanks for caring,

Sue Sexton

Newest Danes in Rescue- Sorry pictures will be next week

Jester is a large older-5-6 yr old male that lost his home to the poor economy.  He is good with children and other dogs and would really like a nice home to take care of for the rest of his days.  He is a merle.

Brutus is also a large 5 year old whose owners abandoned him at a boarding kennel.  The kennel people loved him but realized he needed a real home and turned him in to rescue.  He can be a bit bossy with other males even though he is neutered but he likes the girls.  He is well housed trained and has good manners.  He has a very distinctive color, blue with some very tiny white specks on his back.

Spock is a young black male-under a year-who is right now fairly small framed.  He has been growing since he arrived.  He was thought to have a hip problem but my Vet did not think it was a serious problem.

Jet is a 5 month old pup that is from very nice Danes.  His sire I have seen on electronic scales and he weighed over 180.  Jet is  black and at 4 1/2 month when he was neutered he weighted 60 pounds.  Needless to say he is going to be a big boy.  He is sweet and trained to use a doggy door.

Hattie is a large merle female about 6 years old.  Her owner passed away and she needs someone and somewhere to take care of for the rest of her days.  She is sweet and gentle but scares people because of her size.

Pinky is a charmer.  She is an albino with pink eyes and the most loving dog you could want.  She can hear and see but probably has limited vision in her right eye.  She might not be able to “read fine print” but she can run and play with the best.  Truly a loving dog.

Zoe is a merle Dane of the size I like to call “starter Danes”.  Some people are a bit put off by the really large Danes and I try to get them to take a smaller one to start then get a larger one the next time.  Zoe has cropped ears that stand well and so far she has been no problem with people or other dogs.

Boo is white with merle spots and blue eyes.  She like Pinky has no hearing problem and seems to see fine(it is hard to make them read that darn chart).  Her 94 year old owner died and she would have been put down as many think the blue eyes mean problems but she had a guardian angel in one of the officers.  He took her home and kept her until she could come to me.  She is good with children and so far everything else.  All she wants to do is please.

Seal is the litter sister of Jet.  They are almost just alike but Jet has a bit of white on his feet and Seal doesn’t.  She is just as large, in fact, she outweighed him by 2 pounds when she was spayed.  Both will be large Danes.

“Bonehead”

January 14th, 2010

010_10“Bonehead” is what this poor boy has been called since he arrived with no “meat” on his head and very little on his body.  He was one of the worst cases of starvation I have had.  His hair was coming off just from lack of food.  He is doing so much better now and just needs someone to love and feed him.

Mia

January 14th, 2010

018_18Mia was very thin when she arrived but is gaining her weight faster than I thought she would.  As soon as she is vetted she will be ready to go.  She is young and very sweet.

Spiderman

January 14th, 2010

007_71With a name like “Spiderman” I think this boy had some children in his life.  He came in very thin and you can see he still needs to gain more weight.  He is young and full of energy.  He might be too full of himself for small children but would be fine for older children.

Annabelle

January 14th, 2010

006_6Annabelle was turned in by her loving owner because she had no time for her.  She was working a 12 hour a day job, caring for an ill Mother and a sister with special needs.  Annabelle was somewhat shy as she had not been around many people but she is doing much better.  She gets along very well with other dogs as she is only a pup herself.

Maggie

January 14th, 2010

Maggie

Maggie is a lovely merle and white Dane born April of 2009.  She was a little shy when she arrived but has come out nicely.  She gets along well with other dogs and people and as you can see she is large and lovely.

Trip

November 5th, 2009

013_13Trip is a Dane Lab cross.  He is a striking yellow boy with one blue eye.  His family had medical problems that left little time for him and loved him enough to want him to have a better home.  He will be 1 in December and is  surprisingly calm for that age.  He loves children and would love to have some of his own.

Several people with Dane Lab crosses contact me every year and this boy could be just the one to add to their home.

Jolee

November 5th, 2009

004_4

Jolee was an owner turn in at a shelter.  Her owner was unable to care for her.  She is still underweight but is eating and gaining well.  She is a mantle with ears cropped very short.  She is very affectionate  and good around other dogs but she wants them to be good too.  I call her the “playground monitor”  because she wants all the other dogs to play nice.

She is 2 years old and just wants to give love.

Chloe

November 5th, 2009

024_24This sweet fawn girl was in a rescue in another state and was placed with a family with two other dogs.  One was a neutered male Dane and the other was a female terrier that was just not happy with another girl dog in the household.  Chloe was very nervous and just did not settle down with this situation.   She came was placed with me in hopes I could find a home where she could be happy.  She is happiest around adults.

Chloe seems to do well with any dogs that don’t attack her.  She is now calm and easy going.  She would love to be someones “couch potato”.  She is 2.

Jackson

November 5th, 2009

011_11012_12Jackson is another victim of the poor economy.  His family did not have time with work to spend with a young full of himself  Dane and they decided to let him go to someone who could give him more time.  He is house trained and good with other dogs.

He is a beautiful black with a very sweet face.

Scorpio

November 5th, 2009

005_5This is Jiminy’s older brother and he came in at the same time.  He will be 2 this month.  He is jet shiny black and very playful.  Also, like his brother he needs to work on his manners.  He is loving and wants to please but has not had the advantages of  training.  Both are housetrained.
